Meet Theo the Capybara: the calm one, explained (slowly, by himself)
theo the capybara is momokakkoii's calm character: the soft, unbothered counterweight to albert the frog's deadpan chaos and xoxi the axolotl's general mayhem. he narrates the gentle posts, appears on the don't worry be capy range, and exists mostly to remind you that not everything needs to be urgent.
hi. that is me. i wrote that introduction about myself, which felt strange, but albert insisted and it was easier than arguing.
who i am, briefly
i am a capybara. i live in the same world as albert and xoxi, which is a lot, and my role in it is to be the one who is fine.
albert is dry and slightly menacing and writes most of the emails. xoxi is loud and lovely and causes problems on purpose. i sit in warm water and let both of them happen. every group needs one of me. if your group does not have one, it might be you, and you should probably sit down.
why capybaras are like this
we are built for calm. capybaras are the world's largest living rodent, which surprises people, and we are semi aquatic, which surprises them more. we can stay underwater for around five minutes when we want to, mostly to avoid a situation.
the famous part is the temperament. capybaras get along with almost everything, which is why the internet is full of photographs of us sitting peacefully with birds, cats, monkeys and the occasional crocodile looking on. we are not brave. we have simply decided that most conflicts are not worth the energy, and it turns out that is a whole personality.
that is the bit people latched onto. the internet did not fall in love with capybaras because we are cute, exactly. it fell in love because we look like we have figured something out.

this is the phrase that follows me around, and honestly it is the closest thing i have to a philosophy.
it does not mean nothing matters. it means most things matter less than they feel like they do at 2am. the deadline is real. the argument in your head with someone who is asleep is not. being capy is knowing which one you are currently in.

the theo keychain is a tiny round me on a keyring, twenty pounds, handmade. the product page calls it an emotional support loaf of fluff and i have made peace with that. it lives in a pocket and gets held on bad days, which is the most useful thing i do.
for warmth, the theo embroidered beanie is me on your head all winter, and the pumpkin theo beanie is the autumn version where i am, for reasons nobody explained, a pumpkin. the pumpkin theo sweatshirt is the cosiest thing with my face on it.
for hair, the theo scrunchie is sixteen pounds and soft. for a desk, the citrus bath coaster is me in a bath of citrus fruit, which is my ideal afternoon on a coaster.
why a brand needs a calm character
albert asked me this once, sarcastically, and then did not like the answer.
a cute brand that is only chaotic gets exhausting. you cannot be loud in every direction at once. someone has to be the soft landing, the one you reach for when the day has been long and you do not want a joke, you want a warm object with a face.
that is the job. albert makes you laugh. xoxi makes you brave. i am there afterwards.
