pastel goth is a style that blends two things people assume are opposites: the dark side of goth (black, skulls, bats, a general fondness for the spooky) and the soft world of pastels and kawaii cuteness. you take a skull and you make it lavender. you take a bat and you give it a little smile. that contrast, dark idea plus soft colour, is the whole aesthetic.

it lives in fashion, in art, in the little character on your beanie. the point is not to be scary. the point is to be cute and a bit spooky at once, and to enjoy that nobody can quite decide which one you are.

pastel goth vs goth, what's the difference

regular goth leans fully into darkness: black on black, a serious mood, not much colour. pastel goth keeps the goth motifs but swaps the all black palette for pastels and adds cute characters, so the overall feeling is playful instead of severe.

think of it this way. goth is a midnight graveyard. pastel goth is the same graveyard, at dawn, in lavender, with a small friendly ghost waving at you. same bones, softer light.

what colours and motifs count as pastel goth

you do not need head to toe black lace and platform boots. the easiest way in is one spooky cute piece against your normal clothes: a skull beanie, a bat print, a lavender something with a small sinister character on it.
